Family grows, adds Naomi

In the midst of an already busy fall quarter, I was headed to Busch Stadium to sell souvenirs at the Cardinal game. Thankfully, I checked my cell phone, and noticed that Jamie had called—a bunch of times! Five minutes later I was on my way to the hospital, a week before Jamie’s due date, where she was under observation for high blood pressure.

At first we didn’t think we would leave the hospital with our daughter, since Jamie was not showing any signs of labor. We figured that since we were there, why not have her!

By Saturday, Jamie’s blood pressure had not returned to normal and it started to look more hopeful that we would meet our daughter before the weekend ended. By noon on Saturday, the doctors decided to start making things happen, and we knew we wouldn’t leave without a baby. But there was still a while to go, and this was the last weekend of the baseball season, and a college football Saturday. We passed the time by watching the Cardinals and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

By Sunday morning, Jamie had started having more contractions, and spent the day resting while they grew more severe. Shirley, Jamie’s mother arrived in time to meet her first grandchild. Naomi Lynn was finally born at 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, October 1st. She weighed in at 7 lbs, 12 ozs, and was strong and healthy. What a weekend!
