As Hurricanes Katrina and Rita rocked the gulf coast, Immanuel was quick to respond, having a team of four among the first to arrive on the scene in the abandoned city of Slidell. Since that time, Immanuel has sent teams down almost weekly to help in the relief efforts.
Jamie and I, along with six others traveled to Slidell on Oct. 24th, and returned on Oct. 29th. While there we stayed with host families, of Bethany Lutheran Church, ate MREs (meal ready to eat), enjoyed red-beans and rice, and managed to gut a church, two homes, and remove trees for one individual. It was a trip we will never forget.
