Less than two months remain before ‘call day’ comes on April 25th here in St. Louis. One day earlier, our sister seminary in Fort Wayne will hold its call service. This year, both seminaries have larger classes, with my class including 40 more than last year’s. In fact, my class will be the largest class in over 30 years.
What began back in June of 2003, is quickly drawing to a close. But this is definitely not the end! As we cross off days on the calendar in anticipation of call day, there are congregations all across the country that are equally excited about that day. What marks the beginning of the end of our seminary experience, marks the beginning of a time of partnership for them, as they will learn who their next pastor will be. What an awesome time!
Historically, Concordia Seminary has been able to place 100% of the qualified candidates who wish to receive a call. This year, due to the increase in numbers, the placement offices of both seminaries are anticipating some difficulty in placing all of the candidates by ‘call day.’ After four years of preparation, spouses, children, parents, congregations and many others who have supported seminarians are hopeful that the Lord will continue to provide the necessary number of calls. Please join the seminary community in lifting up prayers in this regard.
