Moving Out and Sizing Down

In just less than four years of marriage, Jamie and I have had to pack up our belongings and move to a new place on five different occasions. We began our marriage living in an apartment in Grafton, WI. After living in three different homes in the St. Louis area, and one in Seymour, IN, we are back in a two-bedroom apartment—ouch!

The saying has surely been true for us: there is no such thing as an empty closet. While we lived in those homes, we acquired quite a lot of stuff. Thankfully, we were able to store a couple couches and lots of boxes in our parents’ homes.

Going through five moves so quickly will also teach some valuable lessons. We now know we don’t need everything that we have, and were able to give away quite a number of items to the thrift store that the Lutheran high school operates in Seymour. We also understand the value of friends. We had a 24-foot truck loaded in record time—1.5 hours! The pictures to the left were taken that day. It was amazing how fast they had us out of the house. Maybe they were trying to tell us something :)

Moving back to St. Louis brought with it mixed emotions. It was hard to leave such a wonderful place, and all the awesome people in Seymour, but there are many big days ahead of us during this final year at the seminary: the birth of our child, call day in April, graduation in May, and maybe even some Cardinal playoff games, and one final move next summer.
